Kingsport Tenn Eastman Chemicals reportedly introduced Eastar Bio Ultra copolyesters, adding new varieties to its Eastar Bio biodegradable resin range. Eastar Bio Ultra's melt viscosity is higher than its counterparts and is specifically designed for blown films. The extrusion process is similar to high melt index LDPE.
Eastar Bio Ultra is completely biodegraded into carbon dioxide, water and other biological materials within 180 days of its commercial cycle under composting conditions. It becomes invisible to the naked eye within 12 weeks, and the degradation time is similar to that of paper in the same environment.
It is understood that films produced from such copolyesters are high in strength, resistant to moisture, and are resistant to tearing and puncture, especially at low temperatures. Applications include agricultural films, composite films for hard food packaging, leaves and cutting straw bags, and gardening films. Europe and the United States have approved Eastar Bio Ultra for packaging that comes into contact with food. When used as a composite layer for traditional biodegradable materials, Eastar Bio Ultra has better moisture resistance and increases the strength of rigid packaging materials.
The product has great potential for development in the food packaging field.
