According to the report of Science and Technology Daily, scientists from the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Ceramics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences have made ceramic materials self-growth by burning metal and controlling the oxidation process to obtain a unique “cellular” ceramic material. The researchers first made the metal into thin slices or filaments and then burned it. The metal is gradually oxidized and eventually becomes the same shape as the metal, but the structure is entirely made of ceramic.

Researchers in the introduction of the use of mesh ceramic materials developed by them pointed out that although they can not be made into a hard large-scale product, but can be used for some special industrial production. For example, it is used as a carrier material for automotive exhaust gas purification catalysts. At present, there are only 200 holes per square inch in the catalyst carrier in Europe, and the thickness between the holes is 150 μm. With the new ceramic material, more than 350 voids can be achieved, and the thickness between the hole and the hole can be reduced to 50 microns.
