(3) Trap shape

Along the edge. When the specified trapping distance exceeds the outline of the underlying object, the newly created trapping edge will cut off the rest along the outline of the bottom object.

tilt. Trap edges grow to the centerline of an adjacent object. If the distance to the centerline exceeds the set trapping distance, growth stops.

Along the centerline. The trap edge does not grow along the edge. If the trap edge is too close to the outline of the bottom object, the growth stops at the center line. However, the full trapping distance is applied in other places that are not close to each other.

The Build parameter specifies whether the growth direction of the trapping edge depends on the trapped object. Global Distance defines the trap distance. Corners is used to specify whether the corners of the trapping edge are sharp corners or rounded corners, and corner cut corner ratios.

(4) Trap color

The user specifies the trapping color here. Under the circumstances, the trapping color is generally a direct superposition of two colors, so the color is very deep, forming a prominent dark edge in the trapped object Zhou Guo. Therefore, the trapping color is usually to help reduce the appropriate, such as 70% of the mixed color is not easy to stimulate the visual.

2) Effect test

In production, the level of trapping is divided into three levels, then it is easy to difficult: (1) Two simple solid color blocks overlap. (2) More objects overlap each other; (3) Two gradient objects overlap. People often use the publishing software to deal with these three situations correctly to evaluate the trapping function of the software. The trapped DTP software generally handles the first two cases and rarely handles the third. Only a few software such as PhotoShop and Mercator can do it. In Mercator, objects trapped on imported CT images can also be trapped. Moreover, the trapping fields that are generated are all placed as separate graphics in separate layers, allowing the user to make finer adjustments.

2. Trapping in commercial electronic publishing software

When publishing maps using commercial electronic publishing software, trapping can be achieved in the following procedures:

Created in a dedicated makeup application.

Created in a drawing program, such as traps can be trapped in Adobe's PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Corel's Core1DRAW using the built-in trap function.

Created in page spelling programs such as PpagMaker, Xpress.

Although these softwares can trap, their respective treatment methods, setting methods and adaptation scopes of trapping are not the same.

1) Trapping of Dedicated Whitening Software

Dedicated dew-white application software refers to the best option when it comes to difficult-to-replace projects or when creating a wide and accurate dew point value for a printing press. It converts image information into pixels and dots, and then automatically generates traps on all adjacent objects. The user can also control the details by trapping adjacent gradients and input EPS pictures. However, this software is expensive, and it takes a long time to process.

2) Trapping in PS

PhotoShop traps adjacent colors in the entire image when the image mode is CMYK. Users only need to enter the trap width. When processing, the computer first judges the depth of the foreground and background colors, and then automatically expands or contracts. The trapping color is a mixture of foreground and background colors. Since this is pixel-based trapping, trapped edges can also be generated for imported EPS images and gradient objects. The colors are the mixed colors of the borders, but the trapping direction is indefinite and the edges are blurred. The resulting trapezoidal edge breaks at the corner.

3) Trapping in Core1DRAW and PageMaker

Core1DRAW is one of the most popular vector software for some small map publishers in China. It is one of the most powerful software in non-professional map publishing software.

Core1DRAW and PageMaker provide an automatic trapping function for the entire layout of text and graphics. It cannot set trapping values for specific objects. The Core1DRAW trapping setting is prior to output. In File/Print.../Color separation, the user can choose whether to trap in the RIP, overprint all colors, or use automatic expansion traps. If you choose to automatically extend trapping in Core1DRAW, you need to determine the width of trapping and the number of text points that trap text. In the PageMaker's Makeup Dew Option panel, you can set the Dew White Width, Color Step Threshold, Centerline Threshold, Text Points, and Black Edition Limits, respectively. Among them, the step length refers to how much contrast is needed between the colors, and the midline threshold means that when the ratio of neutral density of the two colors reaches, the trapping will expand along the middle boundary of the two colors to both sides. Both Core1DRAW and PageMaker cannot make changes to gradient objects and imported images.

Third, some experience summary

With the development of computer technology, digital trapping technology has become a powerful and indispensable means of achieving high quality printing. Digital trapping technology has played an especially important role in map printing where the layout is complicated, where spot colors are used more often and where manual trapping is almost impossible. However, trapping is a very complicated task. The determination of the trapping value and the adjustment of trapping color often require the guidance of professional printers. Therefore, in the digital trapping, more attention should be paid to the following points:

1. Avoid trapping when designing regional colors. Do not use composite colors for fine texts and thin lines. It is best to use embossing.

2. Not all occurrences of adjacent colors require trapping. Judgment should be based on the following principles in advance:

There is no need to trap when there is a small black message overprinting, but trapping is required when a large area of black is hollowed out.
Use heavy black outline graphics without trapping.

In the four-color printing, if the adjacent colors are all monochromatic, trapping is required; if they are all composite colors and do not share any suite color components, trapping is also required, for example, the color 1 is C100K50, and the color 2 is M100, because the two do not share any suite color components, so do traps.
In multi-color printing, spot colors are adjacent to other colors and must be trapped.

3. The width of trapping should be adjusted according to different objects to ensure the integrity of the graphic outline.
