China's first living single cell Raman sorter successfully launched

Will be widely used in biotechnology, food testing and pharmaceutical research

Recently, the functional genomics team of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Process Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Weixinyu Biotechnology Co., Ltd. jointly undertaken the special method work of the Ministry of Science and Technology-"Raman optical clamp screening new method in the single-cell high-throughput separation "Application" has passed the review and acceptance, which marks the successful development of the world's first living single-cell Raman sorter in China.

The research was conducted through joint research by the institute and enterprise under the auspices of Xu Jian, a researcher at the Qingdao Energy Institute, and part-time researcher, and Huang Wei from the University of Sheffield, UK. The project team is developing the first manual and automatic cell sorting instrument based on cell Raman fingerprints that has been reported in the public literature. The sorter can realize the rapid collection of single-cell Raman atlas and shorten the single-cell Raman signal acquisition time to 1 ~ 100 milliseconds for the first time; it can also complete the rapid identification of cell types and growth status based on Raman atlas, etc. task.

The core advantage of the instrument is that it is sensitive to cell biochemical information and its changes, no need to predict biomarkers, no need to label cells, and can perform in-situ and non-invasive live detection. This technology will make a positive contribution to the research of single cell biotechnology and single cell genome.

Using the instrument, the project team has achieved preliminary results in studies on the physiological state of photosynthetic oil-producing microalgae and the separation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms, and has established a reference method and data analysis process for applying demonstration technologies.

It is understood that the instrument has served multiple scientific research teams at home and abroad, in marine resource mining, biofuels and biomaterials, bioenergy germplasm screening, food microbial testing, pharmaceutical research, tumor monitoring and sorting, environmental microbial monitoring, Agricultural ecology research and other fields play an important role.
