<p> As electronics and appliances continue to reduce standby power consumption, STMicroelectronics has released three new meter chips that accurately measure very low power consumption and help utilities increase revenue.

The introduction of STMicroelectronics' STPM32, STPM33 and STPM34 chip-based meters will help utilities minimize revenue loss, even in the face of the most budget-conscious users, to ensure that electricity bills are accurate. Although existing meters can generally maintain high measurement accuracy at currents above 50 mA, measurement errors occur at currents below 50 mA. In today's low-energy era, if the user base is large, these low-power errors may make the public The business suffered millions of hours of financial loss. The STPM3 is able to maintain measurement accuracy to a few milliamps, which is equivalent to the standby power consumption of an LED TV, thus avoiding the loss of public resources.

At the same time, STMicroelectronics' new products will enable equipment manufacturers to develop more affordable meters to reduce the operating costs of utilities. By performing power quality calculations on the chip, including RMS voltage and current measurements, apparent power calculations, undervoltage/overvoltage detection, etc., the new meter chip reduces the meter's main processor load, simplifying software design. The zero-phase anti-theft detection function of STPM33 and STPM34 helps to further simplify the design of the meter and improve system security. The STPM34 also calculates apparent power in single-phase systems and multi-phase systems.

Key features of STPM3 product integration simplify hardware design, reduce the number of external components and reduce the footprint of printed circuit boards. These important features include a voltage regulator, a temperature-compensated reference voltage that supports long-term accuracy, and an SPI/UART host controller interface where the main controller interface enables a low-cost DC magnetic field isolation scheme. True single point calibration also helps simplify meter manufacturing and reduce on-site repair costs. The new meter chip measures DC frequency, while the 3.6kHz 3dB wide bandwidth accurately measures harmonic frequencies for power quality billing.

The STPM32, STPM33, and STPM34 provide 2, 3, and 4 independent channels, respectively, for single-phase or multi-phase AC power systems. The three new products fully comply with the technical standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission and the American National Standards Institute adopted by governments around the world. The technical standards of the new products exceed the relevant requirements of the State Grid of China.
